Synopsis

Born in Elim Waterval October 22ND 1986, Nkateko G Masuluke is a third born and only boy of four siblings. He had his first taste of stage cheer at the tender age of 9 in 1995 when he stunned church audiences with his vocals. In 1999 at age 13 he won his first talent show and he gave the prize tickets to his mom, and Lumphoenix was born.

He went on to join his first group “Knights of the Zodiac” in 2001. He later in 2003 joined a once dominant local Hip-Hop group; Black Warriors, in 2008 his production skills earned him an article on TV plus magazine. In 2009 before going solo he recorded an unreleased studio album under the duo Lumsique which received massive airplay on local radio stations. He is now promoting his first solo promo pack buzz with hit singles such as Sweswi, "Sakaduku (Kuta Fiwa)", "Tsvarakadenga (Ft. Voltage)", “Never Leave (You Know) (Feat. Shony Mrepa)” and many more.

Rapper, producer, vocalist, songwriter and engineer. Nkateko Gastigo Masuluke is one of the most talented upcoming rappers and producers; Raised in Waterval Location, A Kasi that’s 3km away from Elim.
He first entered a recording studio in 2002 at 16 when he met Tribe of One, the founder of Backyard Foundation Recordz, who was blown away by his skills, that  they started recording under the alias; Black Warriors. Ambitious, Lumphoenix hopes to be the best, ideally pushing studio hours to make music the people love.

Looking back on how his faith kept him going to Elim, the recording location, when most couldn’t foresee the need and craving for Tsonga rap. Today he is the studio engineer at Backyard Foundation Recordz. He has his region a buzz with his music that those in whom he inspires confidence, travel as much as 6km on foot just to have him work on their projects. Local entertainers chasing a dream. Wa Delela recorded in 2002 was Lumphoenix first solo single under BFRecordz.


Aspiring Rapper/producer


His production works earned him high praises for the ever so popular ‘Lyve Synergy’ which remained number 1 on Mxit music charts. A multitalented rapper, producer and engineer. Lumphoenix has featured in countless projects with Rising stars – Soshangaan, Sir Mackleker, Baby Voice, Issachar and Stuna, to name a few, tracks like "Tattoo parlour feat; Static & Luther" and  "South Side feat T-dash, Lunatic ,Subnotoza and Biz black," enjoy national play.

Lumphoenix is currently promoting his own production, his first solo promo pack buzz; Ashes 2 Ashes (Dust 2 Dust) launched (2007-2008). He is eager to grow his fan base and is thus open to experimental sounds especially with musicians outside the ambit of your classic hip hop acts.


Mainstream Success


In 2011, he collaborated with a lot of popular artists around the Vhembe District, made a mark amongst those that haven’t heard of him before, his surprisingly elevating skill helped cement his reputation as one of rap’s leading performers. The single, did well on local rap, and hip-hop charts. ‘Solid Waves’, Sir Mackleker said.

Quickly following up his wave of collabs, Lum Released “Drama Bwoy”. This mixtape has earned him respect in some parts of Jozi and PTA, with a Jo’burg reviewer quoted as saying “Lum’s unpredictable skill sounds more dexterous than ever”.


Recent Projects


During the summer of 2011, Lumphoenix spent much of his time networking in and out of Limpopo.
A release date for the project has yet to be scheduled. In the meanwhile, Lumphoenix has been busy building up the label BFRecordz and working with other recording artists.

Previously announced 2012 performers include Muzesh, Kulani Mabobo, Kingrap, Percy Mukwevho, Baby Voice, Belafonte, Mizo Phyll, Sir Mackleker, Static Fusion, Wiz Kanike to name a few, on the “Choppies Opening Promotion Tour.”

Late 2013 Lumphoenix worked with Bhamba and Showcase on a single titled "Where We From" under the name SoVeNga which was formed and founded by owner and founder of SM Media Musa DJ Smarties Shivambu. He has recently released a Single/EP of 4 songs titled "Millionaire" and it's receiving great feedback, following that is a project that's keeping him occupied in studio daily.

For all of his success, Lum has never forgotten his roots. He and his cousins established the Gugan Family Foundation to help local youth. Lum is planning to rebuild his community with whatever opportunity within his reach.

Formerly married to his music, adores his girlfriend, Lum has two sons, Adin and Nova, from this relationship.
